Who am I?
My name is David, and I am a creative translator. I’ve always been a fan of science fiction and video games. They’re the reason of my learning English at a young age. I am deeply interested in languages, and speak fluently French, English and Spanish. I also have an intermediate level in Portuguese, Esperanto and Mandarin, and interests in many others. Finally, I’m the dad of two beautiful children.
What did I study?
I studied English literature and translation at University in France and in the USA, and specialized in genre studies. I analyzed many stories of detective fiction, horror, pulp or science fiction, and wrote my Master’s Thesis (called “Being a Posthuman: Human Enhancement in Banks’ Fiction”) on the Scottish author Iain M. Banks. I think these subjects are deeply important to both our current society and the one we will leave to our children. I will sometimes write about that subject, and especially about transhumanism, in the blog part of this website.
Why work with me?
I am an efficient translator with a passion for my work. Video games, roleplaying games and genre literature have always been part of my life, they’re not “just a job”. Some challenges related to my work I love, such as the meaning-compression of sentences, often necessary because French is so much more wordy than English, as well as the localization of games, especially the “trans-creation” of jokes and other cultural elements. I work fast and use a variety of productivity-enhancing techniques, as well as several CAT tools.
