Academic and Professional Experience

I am an experienced academic and literary translator with a strong background in English literature and translation. I am writing a dissertation on ecological utopias, have taught various literature and translation courses and contributed to academic research through presentations, publications, and grant projects. My professional expertise spans literary theory, science fiction, utopia studies, and environmental humanities, and I have extensive experience translating technical and creative works, including video games and novels.

In my translation work, I have between others collaborated on projects such as the localization of the Eclipse Phase transhumanist roleplaying game, literary translations of Charles Stross’s novels (Equoid, The Fuller Memorandum, The Apocalypse Codex), and technical translations for academic institutions like the CECILLE Laboratory, from the Université de Lille, and the Institut Catholique de Lille. My academic presentations have included topics such as Ursula K. Le Guin’s utopianism and Marge Piercy’s radical hope as well as philosophers Hans Jonas and Ernst Bloch, philosophers respectively of responsibility and hope.

Many of my personal interests are academic in nature, with for instance the learning of ancient languages such as Latin, Ancient Greek, Coptic and Egyptian hieroglyphs. Following in the footsteps of my great-great-grandfather Philip Baldensperger, author of The Immovable East and numerous articles for the Palestine Exploration Fund, I also feel a deep connection to ancient history, religious traditions, and near-eastern studies, spending a lot of my free time reading academic books and papers on these subjects.
